Memphis, Tennessee-based FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) is shuttering a shipping center in northeast Springfield.
The FedEx facility at 2221 E. Olive Court, located at the intersection of Chestnut Expressway and Barnes Avenue, is slated to close at the end of March, according to a statement provided by spokesperson David Westrick.
The statement cited a "previously announced network transformation strategy."
"Team members at the facility were notified several months ago, and certain employees will be offered other roles within the company," the statement reads. "These decisions are never taken lightly and reflect our commitment to supporting affected employees – through job placement assistance, relocation aid or severance, as applicable – while transforming our network and continuing to provide an outstanding experience for our customers."
The statement indicates customers who used the facility for drop-off services can access the location at 1722 S. Glenstone Ave. moving forward.
FedEx's website lists seven Springfield locations, including the closing facility, that offer shipping assistance.
The roughly 20,000-square-foot FedEx building on East Olive Court is owned by 2221 E. Olive Court LLC, according to Greene County assessor records.
