CU promotes trio of leaders

City Utilities of Springfield is promoting three of its employees to higher-level leadership roles.

Warren Brooks, Krista Shurtz and Kelly Turner are moving into their new vice president roles on July 3, according to a news release.

“As we look to the future, we are thrilled for the opportunity to promote three employees from within who have diligently served our customers for many years,” CU President and CEO Gary Gibson said in the release. “I’m excited for these opportunities, and I’m confident these individuals will continue our path of providing world-class services and exceptional value to our customers.”

The promotions are as follows:
• Brooks, a 21-year CU veteran who is currently director of electric transmission and distribution, is taking on the role of vice president of electric operations.
• Shurtz, currently director of rates and fuels and a CU employee for 16 years, is becoming vice president of natural gas and water operations.
• Turner, a CU employee since 2015 who is direct of power generation at the John Twitty Energy Center, is rising to vice president of customer operations and communications.

CU spokesperson Joel Alexander said Brooks is succeeding 30-year CU employee Chris Jones, who is retiring from the utility and taking another career opportunity. Shurtz is taking over for Steve Stodden, who has a pending retirement and will work with her on the transition. Alexander said Turner would take over for Brent Baker, who took another career opportunity.
