Maura Taylor is retiring from Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri Inc. after 11 years leading the nonprofit.

Taylor, the nonprofit's executive director and CEO, is scheduled to exit in December, according to a news release.

“I have said many times that I felt called to this position to serve the needs of the vulnerable, and I have been blessed to have the opportunity to put my faith in action,” Taylor said in the release. “I have been able to use my education, my past experiences and collaborative work with community partners to address the challenges of helping our neighbors in need in order to create opportunities for long-term impact and change.”

Under Taylor's leadership, Catholic Charities last year was recognized in Springfield Business Journal's Economic Impact Awards as the Charitable Nonprofit of the Year. Its broad scope of services cover disaster recovery and construction, homeless prevention, a crisis maternity home and supportive services for veterans, according to past reporting.

Catholic Charities ranked No. 12 on SBJ's list this year of the area's largest charitable nonprofits, with 65 employees. The nonprofit reported an operating budget of $10.2 million.

The Catholic Charities board plans to start a national search for Taylor's successor, according to the release.
