Attitude is Everything

In 2007 I became the proud owner/broker of a real estate company right before the economy tanked. Those first years were bleak. Despite that fact, I walked into the office every morning with a smile on my face, pep in my step, and a positive attitude!  

Leaders set the tone. If I had given in to the doom and gloom that surrounded me we would not have survived. I had to stay focused on any bright spots I could find, encouraging my agents that it would turn around. I never considered failure an option. While it may be a cliché, I am a firm believer that attitude really is everything.  

Leadership entails shouldering responsibility, making tough or unpopular decisions, and sometimes taking risks, but the rewards can be immeasurable. Someone recently asked what I considered my greatest achievement. My answer was, “when I help others succeed”. When I train new agents or review with experienced agents, I ask them what they want to accomplish. Whatever their goals are, it’s my responsibility to help them achieve those goals. When they have their first sale or realize a goal, that’s what makes it all worth it for me.   

Leadership roles, not only in my business but also in charitable and professional organizations has allowed me to meet people and experience things I might not have even considered otherwise. They say life begins at the end of your comfort zone and my hope is that anyone considering leadership at any level will not let fear or apprehension stand in their way.  

Get out there and lead! Let your light shine so that others will follow.
