The Pitch Pizza & Pub has closed after roughly nine years in operation.
Feb. 22 was the last day in business for the 2924 E. Sunshine St. restaurant in Southern Hills Shopping Center, according to a company Facebook post.
Bryan Bevel, owner of The Pitch with wife Tracy, said in an interview this morning that "it was time to get out."
"We had an opportunity with our landlord and our lease coming around. It was a good opportunity to move on and do some other things," Bevel said, declining to disclose future plans. "In the current environment, stand-alone, individual restaurants are very difficult to make profitable and make viable."
The building is owned by Southern Hills Investment Trust LLC, according to Greene County assessor records.
Bevel, whose career experience includes serving as former co-owner of Springfield Brewing Co., opened The Pitch in 2017, according to Springfield Business Journal archives. The Pitch space previously housed a Panera Bread location.
The Bevels in the Facebook post thanked customers for patronizing the restaurant.
"We are so grateful for the opportunity and deeply thankful to everyone who has supported us on this journey," the post reads. "Here’s to the memories we’ve made and to the next adventure ahead!"
The Pitch's menu included pasta, sandwiches, wings and pizza, as well as beer, wine and cocktails, according to its website.
