The Big Slice LLC, a 6-year-old concept along East Sunshine Street, is adding a second Springfield restaurant.
Levi Grant, who launched the New York-style pizzeria in June 2013 at the Allan Center, said he’s targeting a December opening for his new location at 4126 S. Kansas Expressway in Kansas Corner.
“That area’s growing,” he said of the south side of town, noting delivery also would be expanded with the addition. “I’ve been planning it for a while.”
Grant said he signed a five-year lease for 3,054 square feet with D & D Properties Springfield LLC for $4,000 per month. Infill work is expected to cost $200,000, he said. The space, located just south of James River Freeway, formerly housed AcuPoint Health Clinic, which relocated to Marshfield.
For the new location, Grant brought on longtime friend Justin Kennedy as a business partner. It fits into Grant’s plans to franchise the concept — a business move that’s in its early stages.
“He’ll buy me out at some point, and it’ll be a franchise,” Grant said.
As the name implies, The Big Slice is known for its large slices. Grant said second restaurant will have the same menu, including options called Beast Mode, with all toppings, and The Burt Reynolds, a barbecue selection.
At its first location, The Big Slice expanded at 1454 E. Sunshine St., doubling its size, in August 2017.
CrossFit Republic LLC changed ownership; Springfield nonprofit Care to Learn relocated; and the Fresh Gallery in downtown Springfield transitioned into a commercial venture.
