An area that’s experienced tens of millions of dollars worth of developments in recent years is getting a Taco Bell restaurant.
Fort Smith, Arkansas-based K-MAC Holdings Corp., a franchisee for the fast-food chain, is planning to open a 3860 W. Sunshine St. store — in front of Springfield Plaza — by year’s end, a Taco Bell spokesperson said via email.
A Springfield building permit indicates Noblesville, Indiana-based TMG Construction Management Inc. is general contractor for the project. A $750,000 declared valuation is listed on the permit for the new restaurant.
TMG Construction also was the general contractor for Taco Bell’s newest eatery, which opened last month at 2047 E. Independence St. in James River Towne Center. Taco Bell’s website lists 10 stores in Springfield.
In front of Springfield Plaza on West Sunshine, crews recently cleared land and have installed footings for the new Taco Bell. The site is surrounded by two unsold lots, according to information provided by Tom Rankin, co-developer of Rankin Development LLC, which is behind the $78.5 million Springfield Plaza. A 23,500-square-foot addition to the retail development is currently underway with national discount store chain Five Below Inc. (Nasdaq: FIVE) on board as a tenant; Burlington, Petco and Shoe Dept. Encore occupy the original building.
Central Bank of the Ozarks and Plaza Tire Service Inc. are among other companies that have built projects on lots in front of Springfield Plaza, located near the Sunshine-West Bypass intersection. Across the street, Menards constructed one of its two Springfield stores, and a Casey’s convenience store also is in the works.
