Taco Bell building new Springfield restaurant

Posted online

Fast-food chain Taco Bell is building a new restaurant in southeast Springfield.

An unidentified Taco Bell spokesperson reached through the company’s media relations email confirmed plans to open an eatery this fall at 2047 E. Independence St. in James River Towne Center.

It would be the 10th Taco Bell in Springfield, according to the company’s website.

David Havens, a senior broker with Jared Commercial, said he worked with Taco Bell and James River Towne Center owner Jerry Jones’ Blue Star Investments on the deal near Walmart Supercenter. Jones, who also is the owner of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, previously worked for his father in Springfield as vice president of insurance company Modern Security Life, according to the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.

Havens said construction has started on a standalone Taco Bell restaurant between Fazoli’s and a James River Towne Center building housing Mattress Firm, Quiznos and other tenants.

A building permit on file with the city indicates an $800,000 declared valuation for the 2,274-square-foot project. It lists Noblesville, Indiana-based TMG Construction Management Inc. as general contractor; co-owner Tammy Goins did not return requests for comment by deadline.
