SWMO concert venue set to reopen

Southwest Missouri concert venue Black Oak Mountain Amphitheater is scheduled to make a comeback – after an eight-year hiatus.

Owner John Stauffer has set a May 28 reopening date for the venue in Lampe, located about 50 miles south of Springfield near the Arkansas border, according to a news release. The venue had been scheduled to reopen in 2020, but the relaunch was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are excited to bring this beloved amphitheater back to the Ozarks – we have missed it as much as our patrons have,” Stauffer said in the release. “A lot of hard work has gone into revamping the venue and concertgoing experience."  

On opening day next month, Black Oak Mountain Amphitheater is slated to debut with shows from tribute bands Hairball and Lytyl Skynyrd, according to the release. Upcoming acts include Trace Adkins and Nelly.  

The Lampe venue, located near Table Rock Lake southwest of Branson, was placed for sale in 2013 by former owner Garland Pierce, according to past reporting. Stauffer bought the property from Pierce in June 2019, according to a spokesperson, who noted the new owner has invested $3 million, including the purchase price.

It's not the first time the theater has been closed. The attraction reopened in 2010 after sitting dormant for nearly a decade, according to Springfield Business Journal archives. The attraction originally opened as Swiss Villa Amphitheater in 1983, according to Branson Tri-Lakes News.
