Sunshine Lanes reopened Tuesday after a two-week closure due to storms that caused a small fire at the bowling alley.
The storms on June 29 tore off the main power connection to the 1500 W. Sunshine St. building, leaving a live wire on the facility that started the fire on the roof. Sunshine Lanes General Manager Keegan Standage said via email that the fire caused minimal damage and the main problem came from water damage to the women’s restroom.
Sunshine Lanes requested customers remove their belongings from the lockers near the women’s restroom on July 1 in order to assist with cleanup, according to a Facebook post from the business. Standage said many customers already have moved their equipment back into the lockers, and those who had reservations or league games at the bowling alley were able to receive a full refund or move their games to Enterprise Park Lanes.
“We handled these situations in whatever was best for the customer,” Standage said.
Standage said the bowling community helped immensely with the repair process. League bowler Bryan McClancy with McClancy Technologies helped restore power, and Standage said Tony Yarbrough of Exquisite Renovations put the bowling alley in contact with Tuft Aide Inc., which addressed the water damage. Standage also said employees worked for two weeks without air conditioning to clean the center and get it ready for reopening.
“Our bowling community came together to make sure we had a great team of professionals to get tasks completed in a timely manner,” she said.
