SPS sells former Boyd Elementary building

Springfield Public Schools has sold a north-side building that previously housed Boyd Elementary School.

The sale finalized Nov. 14 for $200,000, according to a news release. The buyer of the 1409 N. Washington Ave. property is Boyd School Redevelopment Corp.

“The sale of this property supports our efforts to be fiscally responsible and to maintain efficient operations,” said John Mulford, SPS deputy superintendent of operations, in the release. “Since the building is no longer needed for educational purposes, we are happy to see that it will be repurposed by new owners in a way that will benefit the Midtown community.”

Matt Blevins, who is listed as a board member for Boyd School Redevelopment on the organization's Missouri secretary of state filing, could not be reached for comment by deadline. Blevins told the Springfield News-Leader that apartments and commercial uses are being considered for the property.

The building has been vacant since August 2021, when Boyd relocated to a newly constructed building at 833 E. Division St., according to the release. The Washington Avenue building was declared surplus property by the SPS board in December 2021.
