Valiant Management Group LLC is planning an agrihood concept called Third Harvest in southwest Springfield.
The company, which does business as Valiant Group, is targeting an August groundbreaking for the project at 3411 S. Scenic Ave., a couple of blocks north of Republic Road, said owner and founder Josh Manning. The site to be used for Third Harvest was previously a mobile home park, Manning said, noting he recently purchased the property. Greene County records show the seller was Mobile Homes Sales Inc.
Manning said the agrihood – or agricultural neighborhood – concept includes an on-site farm, a partnership with a local chef for farm-to-table dinners, cooking classes and a farmstand. There also will be an event center with a produce production area.
"I like it because it's different," he said. "I know that it's been done in other markets, and I know it can be successful."
Surrounding the farm would be 110 housing units, Manning said. The plans call for a three-story apartment building with 78 units, as well as eight fourplex townhomes.
"In the middle of it all would be the farm," he said.
With all of its aspects combined, Third Harvest would span roughly 160,000 square feet, Manning said. He estimated project costs at $16 million to $18 million.
Third Harvest is expected to take 15 months to construct, Manning said. Valiant Group is serving as project architect, he said, noting the development is out for bid to select a general contractor.
Additionally, Third Harvest would have parking spaces specifically for trail users, as he said that a greenway trail extension would eventually run by the property.
