Springfield store included on The Limited closure list

The Limited store inside Battlefield Mall is among 250 closing across the country.

A notice on The Limited’s website says all of the company’s stores have closed, resulting in 4,000 jobs lost.

An employee who answered the phone this morning at the Springfield store declined to comment on when the the location is closing or how many employees would be affected. An official with Boca Raton, Florida-based Sun Capital Partners Inc., which owns The Limited, could not be reached by deadline.

The Limited’s website no longer lists any of the company’s stores, but an archived version of the site from earlier this month showed six in Missouri: one each in Springfield, Chesterfield, Des Peres, Kansas City, St. Louis and St. Peters.  

The Limited returned as a Battlefield Mall tenant in 2011 when it signed a lease for 4,600 square feet. The retailer of women’s apparel previously was a tenant until 2006, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

The Limited is located near Old Navy and adjacent to Zales inside Battlefield Mall, according to Simon.com. An employee who answered the phone at the adjacent Betsy's Hallmark Shop in Battlefield Mall said the eight-employee store is scheduled to close around Jan. 29.

The statement on The Limited’s website indicates the company will continue to sell clothing online.
