The Limited to return to mall

Posted online
Battlefield Mall officials have signed The Limited as a new tenant with plans to open in May.

The Columbus, Ohio-based private-label women’s clothier will occupy 4,600 square feet next to Zales in the mall’s East J.C. Penney Court. Officials would not disclose terms of the lease.

The deal marks The Limited’s return to Battlefield Mall, where it was a tenant until 2006.

Tarasina Schneller, mall director of marketing and business development, said Go! The Game Store currently occupies the space, and she was unaware if it would remain a mall tenant.

“The Limited is going to bring an additional option for women,” Schneller said, comparing the store to fashions at Banana Republic, White House Black Market and The Loft. “It has a unique collection for the professional look as well as the daywear and evening looks.”

Mall officials also recently announced that Soma Intimates plans to open in March near Bath & Body Works.

The announcements come on the heels of three tenants – Stonesmith Jewelry, Neighborhood News convenience store and Greek in the Box restaurant – opening in November. The mall added 10 tenants in 2010, its 40th year in Springfield. The others were MC Sporting Goods, Charming Charlie, Apricot Lane, Bare Escentuals, Earthbound Trading Co., Complete Nutrition and Dairy Queen/Orange Julius.

Mall officials say they are prohibited by parent company Simon Property Group (NYSE: SPG) to disclose occupancy rates.

With 1.2 million square feet under roof, Battlefield Mall represents 10 percent of all retail space in Springfield, according to Springfield Business Journal research of Xceligent commercial real estate data.

Simon manages 264 million square feet among 393 retail properties in North America, Europe and Asia. The company reported 2009 revenues of $3.8 billion.

According to a Simon online job bank, The Limited currently is hiring for its Springfield store management team.[[In-content Ad]]
