A Nixa veterinary business that has been confused with another of the same name in Oklahoma has received threats over commentary related to the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk, according to the Nixa Police Department.
Nixa police are investigating threats to Gentle Care Animal Hospital, 125 W. Aldersgate Drive, that were received through social media and the clinic's phone line, according to a news release issued Thursday by the department.
The mix-up occurred after Christopher Rispoli, owner of Gentle Care Animal Hospital in Edmond, Oklahoma, published incendiary commentary online that appears to celebrate Kirk's death, Nixa police say.
"The Nixa Police Department wishes to emphasize that the Gentle Care Animal Hospital in Nixa has absolutely no connection, partnership or involvement with the Edmond, Oklahoma, clinic or with Christopher Rispoli," police said in the release. "We ask that the public be mindful of this distinction and allow the Nixa business, its staff and its clients to continue operations without interference. The Nixa Police Department is actively investigating the threats directed toward the Nixa location."
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Nixa's Gentle Care Animal Hospital indicates "we are an independently owned clinic and not affiliated with any other Gentle Care Animal Hospitals in the country."
Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, was killed Wednesday while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University, according to reporting by The Associated Press. He was 31.
