Pappy's Place listed on market

Posted online

Pappy’s Place, a restaurant and bar staple in the Grant Beach neighborhood, has been listed on the market following its co-owner's death earlier this year.

The listing from Murney Associates, Realtors' Joy Robertson has an asking price of $500,000 for the business and property at 941 and 947 N. Main Ave.

Robertson said this morning it's her understanding that owner Susan Rader would keep the business open until new ownership is secured. Rader could not be reached for comment by deadline.

Rader and husband Wayne bought Pappy's Place in late 2019 after its previous owners sought retirement, according to past reporting. Wayne Rader died in January.

The listing indicates a new owner would "hopefully keep the Pappy's tradition alive." The cafe originally was opened in 1924 by George and Mary Bills, according to past reporting.

Prior to Wayne's death, the Raders purchased the building next door to Pappy's Place with plans to renovate it into a music venue and pub, Springfield Business Journal previously reported.
