Debbie Petersen and Kathryn Wiechert opened Western Mercantile on Nov. 8 at 5900 E. Barbara St., Stes. 1 and 2, in Rogersville. Western Mercantile offers Western-themed products such as clothing, home décor and saddles, with costs ranging between $4 and $900. The store sells new and used Western clothing from manufacturers such as Cruel Girl, Cinch, Wrangler, Adiktd, Cowgirl Up, Unbroken Apparel and Scully Sportswear. Wiechert said she has about six years of retail experience, mostly at Springfield’s Review Shoppe, an upscale resale store. Peterson worked at Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce as an events coordinator and her family owns the National Art Shop. They lease the space from Garretts Propane for $1,000 per month, Wiechert said. They received a $10,000 loan from a friend to cover startup costs. Hours: 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Frock by Amanda Moody, a custom bridal gown store, opened Dec. 1 at 325 S. Patton Ave. Owner Amanda Moody designs bridal gowns, veils and jewelry. She attended International Academy of Design and worked at Elda De Larosa Coutoure, both in Chicago, before moving to Springfield in 2009 after getting married. Moody used $15,000 of savings to start the business and obtained no outside financing. Frock subleases the building with Skinny Slim’s, a bar at 323 S. Patton Ave., from Kimbrough Corners LLC. Husband-and-wife attorneys Brian and Deborah Malkmus moved Malkmus Law Firm LLC on Oct. 1 to 305 Park Central West from the Great Southern Bank building at 430 South Ave. The partners own the building through GCM Enterprises LLC, a company organized by Brian Malkmus, according to Missouri Secretary of State records. Malkmus Law Firm represents its clients in medical malpractice, insurance litigation, workers’ compensation, Social Security disability and wrongful death cases, and the firm’s rates start at $150 per hour.
