Ollis joins insurance industry association board

Posted online

The Missouri Association of Insurance Agents elected Ollis/Akers/Arney CEO Richard Ollis to its board of directors.

It’s Ollis’ first board term with the MAIA, for which he’s representing Greene, Christian, Dallas, Hickory, Polk, Stone, Taney and Webster counties. The MAIA is an association of independent insurance agents in Missouri, accounting for around 4,000 agents and brokers in 12 regions of the state, according to a news release.

“We’re working together to try to help one another stay independent. That’s what I’m passionate about,” Ollis said in the release.

The MAIA board is led by Randy Smart, who recently was sworn in as its 2020-21 president, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. Smart owns Marionville-based Smart Insurance Agency. Ollis would be able to pursue board presidency, should he choose to, after finishing his term, said Ollis/Akers/Arney Director of Marketing and Community Relations Tammy Johnson.

Ollis will be responsible for providing input and direction to the board, Johnson said, adding the board creates a “pool of knowledge” to draw from in assisting independent insurance agents.

“Richard will be able to help contribute a lot of insight and guidance just because the agency in Springfield has been there since 1885,” Johnson said.

Ollis is a fourth-generation insurance provider and also serves as a member of Springfield City Council and on the Wellness Council of America Board of Directors.
