The south-side Houlihan's restaurant has shuttered.

Officials with franchisee O’Reilly Hospitality Management LLC confirmed the closure in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon.

"We have regretfully made the decision to close our Houlihan’s south Springfield location at 2110 E. Republic Road, effective immediately due to a challenging business environment for this concept," the statement reads. "We are incredibly thankful to our team members and loyal guests, and it’s been a pleasure to serve south Springfield at this location over the last 12 years."

The statement indicates O’Reilly Hospitality Management's Houlihan's restaurant on the north side would remain open. The north-side eatery, 2431 N. Glenstone Ave., is attached to O’Reilly Hospitality Management's DoubleTree by Hilton hotel.

A similar statement has been posted to the door of the south-side Houlihan's at Farmers Park. An O’Reilly Hospitality spokesperson did not respond to a request by deadline to disclose the number of impacted employees at the restaurant.

Greene County assessor records show the south Springfield Houlihan’s site is a 2.3-acre parcel owned by Republic Road LLC, an organization registered with the Missouri secretary of state by Tim O’Reilly, CEO of O’Reilly Hospitality Management.

The statement indicated plans for the site are being considered.

“We are currently exploring several options for this great location, and our plans are not yet finalized,” the statement reads.

At the southeast corner of Republic and Harvard Avenue, just south of James River Freeway, the Houlihan’s restaurant sits at one of the entryways to Farmers Park, a mixed-use development from Green Circle Projects LLC. Green Circle was formed by Matt O’Reilly, Tim O’Reilly’s cousin. Farmers Park is book-ended on the east side by Hilton Garden Inn, another O’Reilly Hospitality Management property.

Asked for comment on the restaurant’s closure, Green Circle Projects Director of Operations Jamie Thomas said, "Houlihan’s is not owned or managed by Farmers Park or Green Circle."

Within Farmers Park, recent restaurant movement has included the addition of JW’s Kitchen in place of Progress and the closure of Traza.

O'Reilly Hospitality signed on as a franchisee with the Houlihan’s concept in 2007, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

The company’s first Houlihan’s restaurant in Springfield opened in 2008 at DoubleTree, according to SBJ archives. The south-side location debuted in 2010.

In addition to the north Springfield location, O’Reilly Hospitality’s website lists Houlihan’s restaurants in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Denton, Texas. The 2007-founded company has a portfolio comprising 35 properties, according to a news release.
