The Department of Mental Health is a cabinet-level state agency designed to help prevent, treat and improve the public understanding of mental disorders, according to its website.

In her position at CoxHealth, Coyan serves as the liaison between the health care system and local, state and federal legislators, businesses and community leaders. She’s also chair of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce’s governmental relations committee and a board member for the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools and the Discovery Center of Springfield Inc., according to the release.

In an August news release announcing Coyan’s promotion from director of public affairs, CoxHealth President and CEO Steve Edwards praised her ability to work with multiple stakeholders in the health care process.

“Our world has become increasingly complicated and political, and it is essential that we have a strong voice and prominent seat at the table to advocate for our cause,” Edwards said in the release. “Through her knowledge, kindness and persistence, she has brought great influence to the political process and has made our organization more prominent and more successful.”
