CoxHealth announced Friday that automation has impacted 53 employees.
The affected employees – roughly 0.4% of the health system's workforce – primarily work in roles involving manual entry for medical coding, according to a news release.
"Advances in technology – and planned streamlined workflows with these tools – have now automated those roles," CoxHealth officials said in the release.
An undisclosed number of impacted employees will move to new jobs at CoxHealth. Others will receive career support, such as coaching and resume and interview assistance; financial assistants through the CoxHealth foundation to pursue education, certifications of training programs; "warm handoffs" to other local employers; and technology skill set education.
CoxHealth additionally announced the health system is partnering with Mostly Serious on artificial intelligence training.
"It is increasingly clear that future success will be driven by professionals and organizations that adapt to leverage artificial intelligence," officials said in the release.
The latest news from CoxHealth follows a May announcement that the health system is undergoing a restructuring effort that is changing some employee roles. Layoffs were not included.
