After months of demolition work at the former Heritage Cafeteria and an adjacent strip center, Coryell Collaborative Group has set a groundbreaking date for its mixed-use development at the site.
An 11 a.m. ceremony on May 3 will mark the official start of the development at 1364 E. Battlefield Road, according to a news release. Coryell Collaborative Group's plans for a five-story residential and commercial property were unveiled in March 2021, after Heritage Cafeteria closed in 2016.
“The Heritage Cafeteria was a mainstay in Springfield for so many generations, and bringing this new development to life will provide the next generations another way to enjoy this iconic spot,” said Coryell Collaborative Group President Sam M. Coryell, who purchased the property last year, in the release. “It’s only right to reignite this landmark and keep its legacy alive while offering modern apartment homes and a place for businesses to thrive.”
The Heritage project plans include 95 apartments managed by Coryell Collaborative Group subsidiary TLC Properties, 6,350 square feet of retail space facing Battlefield Road, a pool, rooftop fitness center and lounge area.
The first southwest Missouri location of EarthWise Pet, a national chain of pet supply stores, opened; Grey Oak Investments LLC relocated; and Hot Bowl by Everyday Thai LLC got its start.
