Cookie dough business closes

After less than two years in business, Crave Cookie Dough LLC has closed its doors.

Craig Wagoner, owner of the 325 E. Walnut St., Ste. 102, building downtown where Crave operated one of its shops, confirmed the business closure. Crave Cookie Dough last year opened a second store at 2100 W. Republic Road, Ste. 128; Wagoner said he believed the south-side store also closed.

Requests for comments from owners Dylan Collins and Maggie West were not returned this morning. Phone lines for both stores have been disconnected, and Crave’s hours on Facebook read “permanently closed.”

Business partners Collins and West opened the downtown cookie dough shop in May 2018, followed by the second spot in September 2019.

In a mid-2019 interview with Springfield Business Journal, Collins said he had plans to franchise the concept. The store began after Collins found a video about a cookie dough recipe online, and opened the store with West, who was his colleague at Maria’s Mexican Restaurant. It was the first cookie dough shop to open in Springfield, followed by the April 2019 launch of a Nashville, Tennessee-based NoBaked Cookie Dough franchise shop.

“It was kind of a trend we saw coming up, and we wanted to jump in,” Collins said at the time.

The startup was funded by a $130,000 U.S. Small Business Administration loan and a 20% investment from Collins and investors, according to SBJ archives.

Collins and West had signed a five-year lease with Magers Management Co. for undisclosed terms for the spot in Magers Crossing on Republic Road. Wagoner said the pair is in an active lease for the downtown building. The lease is set to expire in 2021, according to past SBJ reporting.
