Chesapeake Energy files for bankruptcy

Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy Corp. filed for bankruptcy yesterday.

The company will wipe out $7 billion in debt through a restructuring in the proceedings.

Chesapeake, which at its peak had 175 operating rigs, was rumored to file for bankruptcy earlier this month.
