Posted online

A new-to-Springfield gym is slated to open on the south side in a long-vacant property on South Campbell Avenue, according to local building permits.

The building permits, which are on file with the city of Springfield, indicate Crunch Fitness is coming to 3303 S. Campbell Ave. The currently vacant building previously housed Gordmans and RadioShack, and it's located adjacent to a Walmart store. Walmart owns the property housing its store and the vacant building, according to Greene County assessor records, and the company recently opened a fuel station along Campbell Avenue.

Elmsford, New York-based Crunch Fitness has more than 400 locations, according to its website. The membership gym focuses on strength and cardio. According to the website, the Springfield gym would be the first in southwest Missouri and seventh in the state.

Crunch Fitness officials could not be reached for comment by deadline.

According to the city building permits, Crunch Fitness is leasing 43,115 square feet in the building, with the remainder on the west side to be demolished.

A listing for the property posted by Pace Properties states the building spans 84,252 square feet on nearly 7 acres.

Gordmans relocated to 1425 E. Battlefield Road in spring 2019 after operating at the South Campbell Avenue space. Gordmans closed its Springfield store in 2020, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
