While work gets underway on a remodel of its flagship location, Brown Derby is opening a temporary deli and marketplace at the Frisco Building in northeast Springfield.
The Brown Derby Deli & Marketplace concept is scheduled to launch starting Jan. 30 at the Frisco, located at Chestnut Expressway and U.S. Highway 65, according to a company Facebook post.
Officials said in the post that the Frisco location would be the company's "temporary home while Glenstone undergoes renovation."
In December, Brown Derby Wine Center, 2023 S. Glenstone Ave., announced it would get a remodel that includes the addition of a store from Harrison, Arkansas-based Nature's Wonders. The wine center is temporarily closed during the work, with a grand reopening expected by late spring or early summer, according to past reporting.
At the Frisco Building, deli items and a wine kiosk are planned, as well as household and consumer products.
Brown Derby officials could not be reached for comment by deadline on the temporary concept.
Christina Angle, president and chief financial officer for Erlen Group, which owns the Frisco Building, said Brown Derby is occupying the cafe space on the first floor.
"They’re a well-known local business with a loyal following, and their presence brings additional energy and foot traffic," Angle said via email. "Activating space with established local retailers is always a win for the building and for the surrounding area."
