Better Block SGF, an organization formed during the COVID-19 pandemic to upgrade urban spaces that are viewed as underused or inactive, has named its first executive director.
Rachael Walsh started in the role March 9, according to a news release. She joins Better Block SGF from Care to Learn, where she served as vice president of development since May 2025, and she previously worked as vice president of resource development for United Way Ozarks Region.
“Rachael’s leadership and commitment to community-centered development uniquely position her to guide Better Block SGF into its next chapter,” said Andrew Doolittle, board president of Better Block SGF, in the release.
Walsh, who served as a Better Block SGF board member since January 2025, is now tasked with guiding strategic planning and expanding collaboration with neighborhoods as the organization's executive director.
“This is an exciting time in our city. I believe deeply in creating spaces where people can gather, connect and experience the places that make them fall in love with Springfield," Walsh said in the release. "I look forward to building strong partnerships and helping strengthen our neighborhoods in meaningful, lasting ways."
According to records on file in a public IRS database, Better Block SGF is an official 501(c)3 nonprofit, listing gross receipts under $50,000 in 2024, the most recent tax year with data available.
