Zuckerberg, Chan pledge $3B to fight disease

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Dr. Priscilla Chan are making good on a pledge last year to give away 99 percent of their Facebook shares to charitable causes.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative yesterday pledged at least $3 billion over the next decade to prevent, cure or manage all diseases by the end of the century.

“We want to dramatically improve every life in Max’s generation and make sure we don’t miss a single soul,” Chan said, referring to her and Zuckerberg’s infant daughter Maxima. “We’ll be investing in basic science research with the goal of curing disease.”
