YRC warns union of dire consequences

Posted online

Officials with Overland Park, Kan.-based trucking company YRC Worldwide Inc. (Nasdaq: YRCW) recently warned representatives with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters that concessions need to be made to save the company, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.

YRC needs to refinance its debt, but company officials said in a Nov. 5 meeting that refinancing wasn’t possible until a long-term union agreement with concessions was in place. The company and union are operating under a union agreement that runs through March 2015.

The Teamsters represent 25,000 of YRC’s 35,000 employees, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.

Jeff Rogers, president of YRC Freight, a division of YRC Worldwide, left his position in September.
