Yahoo is under court order to pay $5.5 million over the Billion Dollar Bracket Challenge held three years ago.
Yahoo partnered with Quicken Loans and Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway on the contest, which offered $1 billion for the person who could accurately predict the winners of all 63 games in the NCAA tournament. No one won.
SCA Promotions filed suit against Yahoo for running the challenge with Quicken and Berkshire instead of them.
The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans said SCA Promotions Inc. was entitled to half of its $11 million contract with Yahoo as a cancellation penalty.
