Yahoo faces SEC probe over hack disclosure

Yahoo is facing an investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission over the company's two massive data breaches.

The investigation seeks to discover whether Yahoo violated civil securities laws by failing to report the breaches sooner to investors.

The 2014 data breach at Yahoo that compromised the data of at least 500 million users wasn't disclosed until September. That's despite Yahoo having linked the incident to state-sponsored hackers two years earlier.
