World's tallest waterslide delayed at Schlitterbahn

Posted online
The 17-story Verrückt waterslide at Schlitterbahn park already has been crowned the world’s tallest by Guinness World Records, but its first riders will have to wait until next month to take the plunge.

The 168-foot slide at the Kansas City, Kan., water park was originally slated to open in time for Memorial Day, but park officials are now targeting June 5 as final adjustments are made.

In an interview with the Kansas City Star, officials defended rumors on blogs and travel sites that riders had gone airborne during a test run.

“I can absolutely say that no test riders have gone airborne on the slide, because no test riders have gone down the slide,” spokesman Layne Pitcher told the newspaper, noting only sandbags and accelerometers have been used so far in the testing process.

The slide’s German name means “insane.”
