World's tallest hotel planned for tiny village

Posted online
Tourists may soon see the Swiss Alps in a whole new way.

7132 Tower, named for the postal code of potential host town Vals, Switzerland, nestled in the Alps Mountain range, has been commissioned by the owners of Theme Vals, a swanky alpine spa.

If approved by the city, CNN reports at 1,250 feet, the reflective glass-covered tower, planned for completion in 2019, will be same height as the Empire State Building, making it the tallest hotel in the world and the tallest building in western Europe.

The transparent, slim tower was designed by U.S.-based Morphosis Architects following an international competition. It would feature 107 guest rooms, as well as restaurants, a ballroom, gallery, library, gym, pool and business facilities.

CNN reports the small town is home to about 1,000 people and, by some estimates, roughly the same number of sheep.
