World’s most expensive African buffalo valued at $11M

There’s a new most expensive buffalo on the plains of South Africa.

Horizon, so named for the 55-inch span of its horns, was valued at $11.1 million Saturday after businessman Peter Bellingham bought a $2.8 million share in the animal.

Horizon’s valuation almost quadrupled that of the most recent titleholder, Mystery, who was valued at $2.8 million in 2013.

Horizon also is free of tuberculosis, a disease that affects many buffalo in South Africa and the prevalence of which drives up the price of healthy animals for breeding.
