Rutledge-Wilson Park, 3825 W. Farm Road 146, will be a “metropolitan community park” spanning 207 acres on Springfield’s west side that will focus on special outdoor initiatives and hands-on educational opportunities in a farm setting.
Specific plans for the park, including year-round special events and land preservation, will be announced at the ceremony, according to a Park Board news release.
The Rutledge-Wilson Park includes a mile of linear park trail, which will connect to Jordan Valley Park in downtown Springfield and Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield when complete.
The first phase of construction at the park will cost more than $2 million and will be funded with revenue from a 1/4-cent sales tax approved by voters in 2001. The park is expected to open in spring 2007.
