Empire anticipates that it will buy about 350,000 megawatt-hours each year from the farm, enough to meet the yearly electricity needs of about 25,000 homes, according to an Empire news release.
Also on hand for the event were representatives from Houston-based Horizon Wind Energy, which will sell the wind farm’s power, and Westar Energy Inc., Kansas’ largest electric utility, which also will be purchasing energy from the farm.
The 201-megawatt wind farm in Cloud County, eight miles south of Concordia in north central Kansas, will produce about 650,000 megawatt-hours of energy annually, according to the release.
The project is expected to be online by December, according to a separate news release.
