Winter 2010 A&E Profiles: Dake Wells Architecture

Posted online
Location: 20277 State Hwy. 413, Reeds Spring

General contractor: Wehr Construction LLC

Estimated cost: $2.8 million

Dake Wells Architecture designed the high school gymnasium and classroom addition for the Reeds Spring R-IV Schools. Meridian Structural Works Inc. is the structural engineer, and Malicoat Winslow Engineers PC (Columbia) is the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer. The project comprises 17,800 square feet, adding a new practice gym and supporting facilities, including a multipurpose area. The gym has a masonry shell with a continuous horizontal slot window of frosted glass, situated 12 feet above the floor to provide interior daylighting and reduce glare on the sports floor. The new gym is separated from the existing gym by a new weight room that is sheathed in glass that has a Wolves graphic that glows at night and casts an interior shadow during the day, showing the school's identity to visiting teams. Completion is slated for August.
