Winn-Dixie parent files for bankruptcy

The operator of Winn-Dixie and four other supermarket chains filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Southeastern Grocers plans to close 94 stores but leave open 582 in seven states under the Winn-Dixie, Bi-Lo, Harveys and Fresco y Mas names.

Through the bankruptcy process, Southeastern Grocers expects to decrease its debt load by more than $500 million.
