Wine Seasons

Posted online
Is drinking wine a seasonal activity? Certainly not, but the types of wine enjoyed do change with the seasons.

As the days shorten and temperatures drop, wine connoisseurs gravitate from the fruity rose wines and the cool, crisp white wines toward the fuller-bodied, mellow and bold red wines.

In the summer season, salads, fish and lighter dishes are paired well with a sauvignon blanc, Riesling, pinot grigio or lighter chardonnays. During winter, food choices become heavier and more comforting, pairing better with bigger cabernet sauvignon, red zinfandel or even a malbec.

So pull down those sweaters from the attic and keep your eye on the warmer red wines coming out this fall. Here’s a sample to get you started.
