Windstream to cut up to 400 management jobs

Posted online
Little Rock, Ark.-based communications company Windstream Corp. announced yesterday plans to cut up to 400 management positions, or roughly 3 percent of its 14,500-employee work force.

It is unclear whether the Springfield Windstream office will be affected by the move.

"We don't know, but we don't anticipate any cuts at this level," said Jennie Haymes, director of sales for Windstream in Springfield.

Windstream Corp. spokesman David Avery said the company hasn't yet determined where the cuts - expected to result in annual savings of up to $40 million - would occur.

"This is a complex project that will take months to complete," Avery said, noting the process likely would complete in the third quarter.

Publicly traded Windstream Corp. (Nasdaq: WIN) reported net income of $172.3 million in 2011, compared to $312.7 million in 2010. The company provides network communications, broadband, phone and digital TV services.

As of 11:35 a.m., the company's shares were trading at $9.35, compared to its 52-week range of $9.16 to $13.36.[[In-content Ad]]
