Wimbledon almost doubles prime ticket price to $84K

Posted online
Thinking of taking in some tennis during Wimbledon? Thanks in part to a loan for a new roof, those center seats just got a bit more pricey.

Bloomberg reports the All England Lawn Tennis Ground PLC, which owns the grounds of the world’s only grass-court tennis major, will issue 2,500 Centre Court debenture tickets at a price of 50,000 pounds – about $84,020 – each for 2016–2020.

The new pricing is an 80 percent increase for debentures, which include a reserved seat on Centre Court for every day of the tournament in the five-year period, car parking and access to restaurants.

The money will be used to pay off a 35 million pound retractable roof over Centre Count and site improvements.
