The films are the work of Kansas City-based Wide Awake Films, and showings will be free and open to the public, according to a news release from the foundation.
Wide Awake Films will shoot footage Aug. 9–12 for a new interpretive film that will be shown to battlefield visitors. That film is funded by the foundation, and the pubic is invited to visit during the film shoot and see hundreds of Civil War re-enactors in battle, hospital and camp scenes.
The other film dates in the series are:
• At noon July 29 at Moxie Cinema – “The Battle of Franklin: Five Hours in the Valley of Death.” This Emmy-award-winning documentary, partially filmed on the original battlefield, is about a fateful campaign to regain control of Tennessee from federal forces.
• At 8 p.m. Aug. 4 at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Visitor Center – “Bad Blood.” The newest film from Wide Awake Films covers the Missouri-Kansas border wars that helped spark the Civil War.
