Posted online
Greg Williams, senior vice president of economic development for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, has announced he is leaving the chamber next month.

Williams has accepted a job as director of the University of Missouri System Research Parks, effective Aug. 2. His last day with the Springfield chamber is July 23.

The new job will be to help lead the efforts of UM System President Gary Forsee, who was CEO of Sprint before joining the university in 2008.

"He ... has a vision for economic development and a strong desire to create return on investments the system owns, through job creation, tech transfer, innovation," Williams said. "There's so much potential, and I'm excited and humbled to be offered this opportunity."

Williams has been with the Springfield chamber for nearly 15 years. He leads the chamber's economic development program in all business retention and attraction initiatives and also serves as CEO of the Springfield Business and Development Corp. – the chamber's economic development subsidiary.

He is a native of central Missouri. After graduating from the University of Central Missouri, he worked for two years with the state Department of Economic Development before starting a nonprofit economic development organization in northern Missouri. He joined the Springfield chamber in 1995.
