The 106-member Republican majority Missouri House of Representatives has selected Rep. Shane Schoeller, R-Willard, as speaker pro tem for the upcoming legislative session.
Schoeller was selected by the Missouri House Majority Caucus but will be subject to a full vote of all members when the legislature convenes in January for the 96th General Assembly. Schoeller would succeed Bryan Pratt, R-Blue Springs, who is leaving due to term limits, according to a House news release.
"I look forward to helping lead the effort to move Missouri in a positive direction," Schoeller said in the release. "Having the authority of the speaker pro tem position will allow me to more effectively address the issues we face in our area."
In addition to presiding over floor debate in the absence of the speaker of the house, the speaker pro tem is an ex-officio member of all House committees and a member of the Missouri House leadership team.
