Willard Public Schools names new superintendent

Posted online

The Willard Public Schools Board of Education selected a new superintendent from within the district’s ranks.

Eric Wilken, who is currently assistant superintendent of operations, is slated to take on the top job July 1, according to a news release. He'll succeed Matt Teeter, who submitted his resignation in December, citing personal reasons.

"The board is excited to welcome Dr. Wilken as the new superintendent and are looking forward to the great things he will bring to our district," officials said in the release.

Wilken joined Willard Public Schools in July 2021. Prior to that, he was superintendent of the Weaubleau R-3 School District for 11 years.

He was selected for the superintendent role in Willard out of 17 applicants. The board narrowed the list to seven candidates and commissioned an internal committee for in-person interviews. Another round of interviews was conducted when the list came down to three candidates, according to the release.
