Posted online
A stateside recall for vehicles with Takata airbags last week expanded to between 35 million and 40 million.

Market researchers believe the Japanese manufacturer’s future is grim, and automakers like Honda Motor Co. Ltd. have already sworn off using Takata airbags in models currently under development.

The recall, which began last year, hasn’t just damaged the company’s reputation. Takata’s stock dropped 8.6 percent Friday, bringing the 12-month loss total to 80 percent.

Last year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found propellants in the airbags break down over time, causing them to explode. Due to the number of vehicles affected by the recall, there won’t be enough replacement parts until 2019, according to CNNMoney.
