Greene County's supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children, known as WIC, has been renewed with a new funding allotment from the state.
The Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services will provide nearly $1.9 million in fiscal 2025 for the local program, according to a news release. That compares with nearly $1.8 million in fiscal 2024.
"We encourage WIC membership for all households in Greene County who are eligible," said Tara Williams, WIC program coordinator for the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, in the release. "WIC celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024, and it's a longstanding program because it works. We are looking forward to another year of supporting families in our community."
During fiscal 2024, the Health Department served 10,886 pregnant individuals, infants and children in Greene County through its WIC contract with the state.
WIC services, through which recipients receive food such as milk and bread, are available based on an income eligibility threshold that's 185% of the federal poverty level. A family of three in 2025 would have an annual gross household income of $47,767 to qualify, according to the release.
