Why there's a 50-50 chance of a government shutdown

The “Defund Planned Parenthood” rally on the U.S. Capitol grounds Thursday drew a small crowd, but so did a “Defund Obamacare” rally two years ago — and that movement led to a 16-day government shutdown.

According to the Kansas City Business Journal, the issue could cause Congress to meet the Sept. 30 deadline for funding the federal government.

Planned Parenthood receives $500 million a year year in federal funds to provide health services to women.

Antiabortion activists were emboldened in their view that no federal money should go to Planned Parenthood when the Center for Medical Progress released hidden-camera videos showing officials discussing how they harvest and distribute fetal tissue and organs for medical research.
