Why Beretta is moving its gun factory to Tennessee

Posted online
Facing tough laws in Maryland banning semiautomatic weapons, Beretta USA is uprooting its factory there and moving to Tennessee.

Maryland’s Firearm Safety Act of 2013 made 45 types of guns illegal – including some Beretta pistol, rifle and shotgun models – and limits magazine capacity to 10 rounds.

While Beretta successfully lobbied to amend the law so it could continue manufacturing, importing and warehousing guns in the state, a company spokesman said the legislation was a wake-up call to find a more gun-friendly state for its operations.

The U.S. arm of the 500-year-old Italian gun maker is building a $45 million factory in Gallatin, Tenn., and receiving $4 million in incentives for the project, according to CNNMoney.
