Wholesale inflation unexpectedly accelerates to highest level since September

Inflation measured at the wholesale level was much higher than expected in February, according to Labor Department data. Economists say it’s another sign that price pressures remain elevated and difficult to control.

The producer price index – measured before costs reach consumers – surged 0.6% in February from the previous month. On an annual basis, prices remain up 1.6% — the highest level since September 2023 – and both are higher than economist’s predictions.
